Ron Rogaar

Since 1989 I live in the city of Assen, where I work as an administrator on the local children's farm. Before 1989 I lived in the town of Delft where I managed a dog trim salon and a pet shop. As a hobby I was showing dogs at dog shows. These dogs were mainly dwarf and standard size poodles. I also learned other people on how to show their dogs best at dog shows. I have won several titles with my poodles; Dutch & International champion, Belgian & Luxembourg champion and winner 1985 & 1986.

When I became administrator of the children’s farm I also became responsible for the care of a small flock of Drentse heather sheep which graze at the nature reserve the Wittelterveld. Since a few years I have taken over the flock from the local council of the city of Assen. After lambing time the flock contains approximately 400 sheep. In 1990 I bought my first Border Collie Mike, in 1991 I became runner-up in the promotion class and in 1993 I became Dutch champion with my dog Mike. In 1998 I won the Dutch promotion championship with Trish and since 1992 (except in 1998) I every year compete in the European team. In 1996 won the European championship in Denmark, in the year 2001 I became third with my dog Trish in France.

Because of the knowledge that I gained at the children’s farm, where I have a lot to do with breeding, health and care of animals, but the fact that I also learned a lot by showing dogs in the past. I gathered a lot of dog knowledge. These facts and the fact that I use my knowledge of ISDS and NHSB breeding lines, also makes me a critical but successful breeder. This results in breeding healthy work and trail dogs. In breeding my Borders I strive to breed good and healthy sheepdogs which are also well built. In spite of the fact that my priority is to breed dogs with the right working spirit, I also want the dogs I breed to be physical fit to be able to do the heavy work of herding sheep or cattle. The looks of a dog I also find of great importance. It is my opinion that every a breeder of working sheepdogs has to do his best to breed dogs with great working abilities and good looks too. This combination of beauty and brains inspires me and also makes me perform better.
